Ion started to appear on social media as a slang abbreviation for I don’t in 2009.
Since then, its usage has increased year on year.
The rapper Yo Gotti used ion in two of his song titles: “ION Want it” from his studio album I Am (2013), and “Ion Feel Em” featuring Kevin Gates from his mixtape Concealed (2015).
There are a number of other definitions of ion.
1. Although dated, there is a slang acronym ION that stands for In Other News, which you can use when you want to change the topic of conversation.
2. In chemistry, an ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving the atom or molecule a net positive or negative electrical charge.
3. The suffix -ion in a word indicates an action, process or state, e.g. creation, consumption, intoxication.
4. In Classical Greek mythology, Ion was the son of Creusa and Apollo, and was the eponymous ancestor of the Ionians.
